I wrote another song for money today
I got mouths to feed and bills to pay
I got a wife who works harder than I do
Commuting down along Bergen Avenue
I sell my songs for as much as I can get
It’s a good gig but it’s not a sure bet
I feel guilty that I’m not out there too
Commuting down along Bergen Avenue
My grandpa
Was a lobbyist
In California
He had three kids
But in his spare time
He wrote songs
And tried to sell them
But he never did
I wrote another song for money wah oh
It keeps the dream alive just barely afloat
That one day we can live off my songs and you
Won’t have to commute down along Bergen Avenue
Another song another day another dollar I’ve earned
A topsy turvy year with all the corners we’ve turned
I’ve got my shorts you’ve got your high heeled shoes
Commuting down along Bergen Avenue
And they were good songs
He didn’t have the internet
And they were good songs
But he had no place where they’d get
Heard
I wrote another song for money just now
I heard you coming up the stairs and I turned the lights out
I want to have dinner ready and the baby sleeping too
When you come home down along Bergen Avenue
